Western Railway is one of the Indian Railway zones. It is headquartered at Churchgate, Mumbai, and Maharashtra. It came into existence from 5 November 1951 and is operating till date.  The major railway routes which are under Western railway are Palanpur-Ahmedabad, Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad, Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad. The next in the list of railway zones of India is West Central Railway. It is headquartered at Jabalpur and is operating since 2003, April 1. On the same day the Jabalpur and Bhopal divisions of Central Railway Zone reconstituted to make it a part of West Central Railway and Kota division of Western Railway Zone got reorganized. The states or divisions which are served by this zone of railways are central and eastern Madhya Pradesh, Northeastern Rajasthan and Southern Uttar Pradesh. The next in the row of 16 railway zones of India is South Western Railway zone.  It is headquartered at Club road, Keshwapur, Hubballi Karnataka.  The year of its existence is 2003, April 1. The locale which this zone covers includes Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Goa.  Along with that the divisions which this zone covers include Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysore. South East Central Railway is next in the list of Indian railway zones. It came into existence in 2003 on April 1, although it was inaugurated in 1998 on September 20. The headquarter of this zone is in Bilaspur.  The divisions which come under this zone are Bilaspur, Raipur (new one) and Nagpur (formerly which was part of South Eastern Railway). South Eastern Railway is next in the list of Indian railways.  It is a part of Eastern railways.  The headquarter of this railway zone is at Garden Reach, Kolkata, West Bengal, India.  It is operating since 1 August 1955 when Bengal Nagpur Railway portion separated and this zone came into existence. This railway zone serves West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha.  This railway zone has major workshop located in Kharagpur. The divisions which this zone has are: Madurai, Salem, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Palakkad and Tiruchirappalli. The divisions of this zone comprises of Ajmer, Jaipur, Bikaner and Jodhpur.

The next in the row of railway zones is North Frontier Railway.  It is headquartered in Maligaon, Guwahati. It was established 60 years ago on January 15, 1958 and since then serving us.  It also covers locale of Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Sikkim, West Bengal, Mizoram, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

The divisions which this zone has are: Tinsukia, Lumding, Katihar, Rangiya and Alipurduar where each divisions is leaded and headed by a Divisional Railway Manager, a Senior Administrative Grade officer of the rank of Joint Secretary to Government of India.
